My No-TV Life…

IS OVER. Yesterday I had Cablevision hook me up, after 4 months of not missing it. But having decided to stay in the country, and with winter approaching, I thought I might need it. Got a DVD player too, whoopee.

I watched Rachel Maddow for five minutes and Larry King for another five. That was all I could take on my first try.

What’s worth watching? Any recommendations?

Mad Men! And it’s better on Demand — the commercials are killer in that show. And House starts next week. And Yankees. And there you have my full TV schedule..

Worth a rerun: Jon Stewart’s interview last nite with Bill Clinton.

Anthony Bourdain No Reservations on Monday night on the travel channel (with reruns at other times as well). I’d also advise one splurge on the DVR cable box so you can skip all commercials by recording everything. You can tape two shows and watch one you already have recorded all at the same time!

Not much worth watching. C-SPAN’s morning show is good and brainy.

I love The Office and Entourage.

But I recommend you get a library card or a Netflix subscription (you can watch a lot of movies instantly (and on your TV, too, if you have the necessary wires and adapters(?) adaptors(?)).

And with the library you can really brush up on your classics.

    (Just kidding)

  6. I finally broke down and ordered Cable after I discovered that while you can split Netflix DVDs, you can’t split them across addresses. Since most of my queue isn’t available for instant viewing, I needed something more up here in the boonies.

I’m addicted to the Food Network (think it’s better for my waistline that way) and the nerdy channels (Syfy, Bio, History…)

But, Mad Men’s worth watching. I’m about to do a marathon of True Blood on Demand. Also, the last season of Monk.

Thanks for the suggestions, people. I’m still kind of wary of the thing. But I gather from all your comments that there’s some enjoyment to be had out of it if you play it right!

Got something to say? Please say it!
